Diary, 1870. This collection consists of a 90 page manuscript diary for the year of 1870, written by Colonel George Lippitt Andrews while superintendent of Indian Affairs for Arizona Territory at Fort Yuma. The collection also contains newspaper clippings, Andrews' signature clipped from letters, and photographs.

Andrews, George Lippitt, 1828-1920

George Lippitt Andrews was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1828. He entered the Rhode Island Militia in 1844, was promoted to Major in 1848, and to Colonel in 1853. He resigned from the military in 1856. In 1859 he rejoined the military as a Second Lieutenant in the Missouri National Guard. Andrews served in the Civil War and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1862 and then to Colonel in 1863.
